Stamford Lions Club

Stamford Lions has been in Niagara Falls since 1957. Our primary charities include Diabetes, Guide Dogs and Eye Sight related causes. Stamford Lions is a Niagara Falls chapter of Lions International; the largest service organization in the world. We Serve.

Who Are Lions

When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We serve. In 205 countries, in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and in eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are at work, helping, leading, planning and supporting. Because we're local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities where we live. And because we're global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders. Our 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members in over 200 countries make us the world's largest service club organization.

The Stamford Lions Club was organized during the winter of 1957, under the sponsorship of the Niagara Falls Lions Club, and received our charter on May 6, 1957, with Lion Ben Prior serving as Charter President. In 1974 meetings were moved to the newly renovated Stamford Lions Memorial Hall on Portage Rd which had been purchased from the Stamford Women's Institute in 1972.

What We Do

We want everyone to see a better tomorrow. That's why we support sight programs and services including vision screenings, eye banks and eyeglass recycling, provide eye care services to those at risk of losing their sight, and raise donations through fundraising campaigns.

We believe everyone deserves a healthy life. From providing health programs that focus on hearing loss to supporting efforts to control and prevent diabetes, we're working to improve the health of children and adults around the world. We empower the next generation. Whether it's providing volunteer and leadership experiences in a Leo club or sharing a message of peace through our Peace Poster contest, our youth programs invest in the future by reaching out to young people.

We serve local communities – and protect the planet. From performing hands-on service projects to providing emergency assistance, our community and environmental programs improve our communities – and protect the environment.

Why Become a Lion

The main reason is to help others. With the help of all the members of the club, we can work and raise funds to allow Lions to offer assistance where needed in the community. You will get to develop your leadership potential by taking an active role in the running of committees and the executive of the club. Socially you will meet people interested in doing the same work as you in the club, other clubs, the District, the Country and Internationally. Inter-club visits and annual conventions are an integral part of Lionism and help broaden your knowledge and appreciation of how Lionism serves needs throughout the world.

Why not talk it over with one of our members. Any one of us would be happy to explain fully what Lionism is all about. We invite you to attend one of our dinner meetings as a guest of one of our members, and then you can make a qualified decision to join us. We would like to hear from you. Please contact one of our membership development committee members. They will be happy to talk to you and answer any questions you may have.
